VNS Therapy (Vagus Nerve Stimulation)

Joyce, my spouse was one of the earliest study subjects for VNS Therapy for Depression (December 13, 1999). I am her long time support person and health care advocate/activist of 5 decades. The intent of the blog is not to promote any therapy, product or treatment but to continue sharing our experiences and knowledge as it relates to VNS. I endorse patient education in collaboration with a caring, knowledgeable and licensed health care professional while also encouraging hope and persistence.

New Clinical TMS Society Established

CONFERENCE NEWS

New Clinical TMS Society Established

May 2, 2013

transcranial magnetic stimulationA new transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) society open to all TMS providers has been established. The Clinical TMS Society (Clinical TMS) coordinates TMS practices and connects physician and non-physician members from across the world.

The focus of this professional association is to optimize clinical practice, awareness, and affordability of TMS. According to Dr Tarique Perera, President of Clinical TMS, “Our society will be a valuable-industry neutral resource for clinical TMS providers. We hope to optimize and standardize the delivery of TMS and make the treatment more affordable . . . Pooling resources and outcome data will allow us to better serve patients and increase public awareness of TMS." Because cost can be a major limiting factor, a task force will be formed to expand private and public insurance coverage of TMS. ‬

Formed in January 2013, the society already has a substantial membership that includes some of the largest clinical practices and several leaders in TMS research.

Clinical TMS will be hosting an inaugural meeting in conjunction with the American Psychiatric Association Meeting in San Francisco, May 18 to May 19, at the InterContinental Hotel. The conference will start at 6:30 PM on May 18, with a poster session, followed by a dinner reception with a keynote address given by Alvaro Pascaul-Leone, MD. On the next day, leaders in the field will present a series of workshops covering topics such as research, education, clinical standards, and reimbursement.

More information on becoming a member of Clinical TMS and the meeting can be found at www.clinicaltmssociety.org.

About Me

I'm a very, very long-time support person and mental health advocate/activist for my spouse Joyce as well as to others. I'm also a retired business executive and former Board Member, President and facilitator of a local chapter of DBSA as well as a Florida State appointment as a Guardian Advocate. I do not endorse, promote or advertise for any therapy, product or company. I do share our personal experiences, my research and knowledge in the hope it might benefit someone or do I give advice as to what one should or shouldn't do. I extend my best wishes for wellness to one and all and all the good you’d wish for yourselves.
